0:45 I really sincerely believe entrepreneurs

0:48 born anywhere in the world me

0:50 included are American by Nature here’s

0:56 why sounds silly but the word

0:59 entrepreneur has 12

1:01 letters the word American has eight

1:06 letters nine from the word entrepreneur

1:09 are in the word

1:11 American

1:13 coincidence not if you consider a

1:15 missing three are P so we’re tasked with

1:18 putting the entrepreneur in the word

1:21 American so I’m going to encourage you

1:23 to start a business but what I’m also

1:25 going to encourage you is to examine the

1:27 reason you’re starting the business

1:29 you’re about to

1:30 start do you have passion for

1:34 it will that passion be there a week

1:37 from today a month from today a year

1:39 from today 30 years from

1:42 today if the answer is yes go ahead and

1:46 get started don’t worry about all the

1:48 other details I’m going to show them to

1:50 you in these videos talk to you a lot

2:11 passion the the reason for passion is at

2:14 first there’s not going to be the second

2:16 P there’s four Ps I’m going to talk

2:17 about passion

2:20 profitability planning or pitfalls and

2:24 planning if we take all these

2:27 four then we can have a business and

2:30 I’ll intertwine them uh you know they

2:32 should come in with passion plan

2:35 pitfalls profitability if you really

2:38 want to lay them correctly but but I mix

2:40 them because that’s how how business is

2:43 you things get mixed they don’t get

2:45 organized now it’s your job to organize

2:47 them it’s your job to systematize them

2:50 and that’s how you get paid and make

2:52 some money but mainly it should be

2:55 something that you have passion for okay

2:59 if if you woke up every day doing what

3:02 you’re doing and money was not an object

3:05 would you still be doing it if

3:08 you had inherited $20

3:12 million would you still do what you’re

3:14 about to open up if the answer is yes go

3:17 ahead and do it if the answer is no well

3:21 you can do it but all you’re going to do

3:23 is be trading a job with someone else

3:26 for a job for yourself and that’s not a

3:28 bad idea but you really would do much

3:31 better to examine your soul and say do I

3:34 have passion for what I’m about to do so

3:38 passion passion passion I know it sounds

3:40 corny but I’m very passionate about what

3:44 I do I like seeing small businesses

3:47 started I get an absolute kick out of

3:51 watching someone succeed and I I’ve done

3:54 that for years I chaired the uh small

3:57 business advisory committee at local

4:00 College when I was a kid I had videos

4:03 that would broadcast on the local Cox

4:05 Cable station they broadcasted them for

4:07 5 years if you go to my YouTube channels

4:11 and fumble around a little bit you’ll

4:13 actually find the original video I

4:14 copied it it’s 5 minute video it ran for

4:17 five years uh so I have a lot of passion

4:20 for this I don’t really care whether I

4:22 make money or not the money naturally

4:24 comes okay people will pay you for your

4:28 talent but they also want to know that

4:30 you’re passionate okay do you think the

4:34 top baseball players just kind of

4:36 saunter on the field or are they so

4:40 passionate that the field appearance is

4:43 just an extension of what’s going to

4:45 happen that day so passion passion

4:47 passion I can’t say it

4:50 enough a a

4:52 pitfalls I I’m not really big on

4:54 pitfalls as a matter of fact I consider

4:57 myself the best stupid entrepreneur that

5:00 ever existed and that’s a good thing for

5:03 you I don’t want you writing all the

5:04 pitfalls I know people that are so much

5:07 smarter than me that when I tell them my

5:09 idea the first thing they do and

5:12 fortunately I tell them that only after

5:14 I get started because all I do is all

5:17 the reasons it can fail and I go uh I

5:20 didn’t think about that oh well now that

5:23 I’m open I got to keep it going and

5:26 generally I keep it going and we enjoy

5:28 what happens as a result of it

5:30 but the really smart people which I like

5:33 not to put myself in that category the

5:36 really smart people that can overanalyze

5:39 everything I go with passion okay so the

5:42 first p is more important than the

5:43 second P fit Falls you know I mean if

5:46 you think you’re going to drive off of a

5:47 cliff for God’s sake don’t go off the

5:49 cliff stare around it okay but if there

5:52 was a giant you know crater you got to

5:55 figure a way to cross it and that’s what

5:58 happened could it be nicer if the Cradle

6:00 wasn’t there yeah that’s fine but it’s

6:02 going to be a distraction it’s going to

6:04 and anything that makes you that doesn’t

6:07 kill you they say only makes you

6:10 better

6:12 um

6:15 profitability it it’s kind of the key of

6:17 what you want to do no matter how

6:19 passionate you are no matter how many

6:21 pitfalls you can overcome you got to

6:24 have some profitability in the picture

6:27 uh being in business for yourself is

6:29 about working I used to say working 16

6:32 hours for yourself uh so you can get

6:35 paid for eight hours but they ought to

6:37 be at least profitable 8 hours so make

6:41 sure you build profitability in the

6:43 picture charge for your services you

6:45 know when we start we’re like oh I used

6:47 to do this for my friends all the time I

6:49 create websites for them I get their

6:51 websites ranked on Google well this is

6:54 how I put food on my table this is how I

6:56 pay the gas bill so I’ve got to charge

6:58 for my Services now so the same thing

7:02 with you whatever it is the service

7:03 you’re going to do price it get paid for

7:07 it create a profitability picture and

7:09 I’m going to talk at length in other

7:11 parts of this series about how you price

7:13 things where you position yourself I’m

7:16 not a fan of one fits all one size fits

7:20 all you can choose there there there’s

7:22 uh ways to create pricing and I’ll talk

7:25 about that I’m not going to divert my

7:26 attention to

7:28 that and finally planning H why did I

7:31 put it last well cuz that’s one of my

7:34 weaknesses but guess what you could

7:37 probably overcome that by planning first

7:40 I personally fire Ready Aim okay and

7:44 then I fix things as I go along and then

7:46 when I finally get them to where they’re

7:48 really where I want them I love them U I

7:52 will tell you this much one of my best

7:55 plans ever was when I opened up my first

7:58 automotive store which became Auto

8:00 accents and if you want to know a little

8:04 the website is still up and it still

8:06 gets about 5,000 visits a month um and

8:11 and the phone numbers are still good and

8:12 they actually go to two uh competitors

8:16 um I I handed the phone numbers to two

8:19 competitors after we closed back in 2003

8:22 anyway uh

8:24 planning I created this plan there’s a

8:27 form from the SBA and I’m actually going

8:29 to try at some point to uh get a copy of

8:32 that form and splash it or at least put

8:34 the phone number on on the video so look

8:36 for it below me uh not the phone number

8:39 the actual form number get it fill it

8:43 out by hand do not put it in a

8:46 spreadsheet I actually made a

8:48 spreadsheet out of it and somehow when

8:50 you fill it out by pencil it’s better my

8:53 my first uh company uh I opened it up

8:58 with a plan of doing 6,000 the first

9:00 month January of of 1984 6,000 the

9:04 second month and and 6,000 the third

9:07 month we did 2900 the first month we did

9:12 uh 3,100 the second month so my back was

9:15 to the wall I was already 6,000 short so

9:18 now I revised all my plans and I said if

9:20 I don’t hit 10,000 we’re going to go out

9:21 of business we did we did $10,400

9:25 so whatever you plan and you put in your

9:29 head and you follow and you track uh

9:33 some miracles happen in the universe in

9:36 my world it’s God basically is answering

9:39 your
